This was my response for the 3rd word for 3 Creative Studios challenge group "rhythm".

Initially, I had an idea for three panels - one that encompassed the rhythms of nature (tides, cycles of life etc.); a second panel that described how rhythm was in us, and a third panel that encompassed rhythm as emodied in music/danceCollapse )

Life stuff has been happening, and now I’m back (more or less) but I’m currently sewing machine-less so I haven’t been making anything. However, I made this about six weeks ago and can finally post it because the challenge it was for is now public.

Our challenge word was “passage”.

Beads & Chains

And, as soon as we got our word for the second challenge, I knew exactly what my quilt would be about.Collapse )

Close up a bowl

In late December, someone suggested that I join the quilt challenge at 3 Creative Studios (three textile artists who have come together to offer classes, sell their wares, etc. under one roof.) On a bi-monthly basis, a challenge word is given to the participants, and they must produce a quilt based on the challenge. I was pleased to be asked and excited for the opportunity to grow.

the end resultCollapse )

Is anyone out there?

I know this community hasn't been active for a long time, but I thought if I posted, that maybe somebody would start talking. Sort of a "If you build it they will come" thing.

I've been quilting for awhile now, but am just starting to venture out into the world of art quilting. I'd love to talk with others about ideas and construction techniques and find inspiration, etc.

So, here's my latest:

The Paths to My Bliss, No.1

Composed of dusty pink cotton batik scraps, burgundy shot silk, varigated "fuschia" yarn, overlaid with coral pink silk tulle, quilted with gold embroidery thread. Called "No.1" because I think there's two more in my head/heart on this theme, although the other one I'm working on right now isn't part of this series.

More talky-talk at my blog.

Hope to hear from someone!

Need feedback from people in USA [Nov. 14th, 2008|12:23 am]

OK so I didnt notice that there hadnt been too much action here when I posted before.... Im still gonna make a couple of wacky dolls and post pics.....

ANYhow..... Im drawing up some first pictures for a quilt to celebrate the inauguration of Obama.

I think I am going to use some elements of your (USA) emblems such as your flag and the eagle.  I just wondered how you feel about that.... it occurs to me that to use a people's symbols might require some input from those said people

I mean if I turn the stars and stripes into a pieced ribbon effect.... does that become offensive to USA or its people?  That kind of thing.

Im serious.. I really want to know what kind of feelings etc you have concerning the public use of these national emblems.

Thanks for any and all comments.

I did not post the patterns because we never got past 3 players, I just do not think it is enough to make it interesting... so I'll try this again in a month after the poverty of post Christmas has passed.... sorry. If the other two players hang on we will get this done eventually.

Here are some worth using for the round robin that are online:
http://dollmakersjourney.com/elisa/index.html
http://dollmakersjourney.com/callista/index.html
http://dollmakersjourney.com/wallangel/index.html
http://dollmakersjourney.com/fancynancy.html
http://dollmakersjourney.com/dilly.html
http://dollmakersjourney.com/MardiGras.html

you could even keep it super simple and make this one for the others to embellish for you, I would enlarge it a tad using a photo copier enlargement feature...
http://dollmakersjourney.com/friendship.html

And I will post a couple others from my book after I get home from Viola's sunday night in case none of these appeals to the people needing a pattern
